How will you contribute to our success?

  • Work in collaboration with the client of the mining industry on-site to balance client needs and CSL’s interests
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and security measures
  • Provide regular performance reports to CSL management and the vessel manager
  • Assist the vessel with technical matters and liaise with the technical superintendent to ensure smooth operations
  • Coordinate and manage crew change logistics
  • Supervise local agents and suppliers and monitor expenses
  • Oversee logistics for spare parts, lubricants, provisions, and freshwater supply, as well as coordinate waste disposal
  • Manage shore-based labor/subcontractors and assist in sourcing local suppliers
  • Support planned/opportunistic preventive maintenance in line with bulk carrier schedules
  • Supervise daily vessel operations and ensure they operate at optimal efficiency, with safety as the top priority, by overseeing, organizing, and directing vessel crew and establishing and monitoring key performance indicators
  • Review/vetting of bulk carriers in consultation with the transshipment vessel captain prior to nomination
  • Contribute as Port Captain to planning: bulk carrier loading plan, transshipment vessel loading plan, and WLTHC (air draft) considerations
  • Assist transshipment vessel captains with planning, coordination, and execution of STS operations
  • Manage cargo residue – communication and planning.

The skills you will bring to our team

Maritime qualifications on deck: Officer or higher or maritime engineering qualifications or relevant experience in transshipment operations. Education in mechanical or electrical engineering is an asset. 

  • Understanding of vessel operations, efficiency, and safety
  • Knowledge of bulk carrier loading plans, transshipment vessel loading plans, air draft considerations, and tug coordination
  • Understanding of planning, coordination, and execution of ship-to-ship operations
  • Knowledge of bulk carrier stowage planning
  • Ability to manage diverse personalities from different nationalities
  • Ability to work and make decisions in stressful situations
  • Familiarity with vessel management software is an asset but not mandatory
  • Availability outside normal working hours and weekends on a rotating on-call schedule
  • Experienced and confident user of MS Office tools
  • Experience as a Port Captain
